PSA consulting is hands-on expert help configuring, optimizing, or migrating the Professional Services Automation platform your MSP runs on — typically ConnectWise, HaloPSA, or Autotask. Think of it as hiring a specialist to set up and tune the system that runs your entire business, so your team can focus on serving clients instead of fighting their tools.
You can — and many MSPs try. The reality is that most PSA platforms have hundreds of configuration options, and the vendor's default setup is designed for a generic MSP that doesn't exist. I've seen MSPs spend 6-12 months trying to "figure out ConnectWise" internally, only to end up with a configuration that creates more work than it saves. A consultant gets you to a production-ready state in weeks, not months.
I specialize in ConnectWise PSA (formerly Manage) and HaloPSA. I also handle migrations from Autotask/Datto PSA, Freshdesk, Zendesk, and Syncro into either platform.
Consulting engagements range from $175-$250/hour depending on complexity. A targeted optimization project might run $3,000-$8,000. A full implementation or migration typically ranges from $10,000-$30,000+. I'll give you a fixed-price quote after the discovery call so there are no surprises. The PSA Health Check is the most common starting point.
A PSA Health Check takes 1-2 weeks. A targeted optimization sprint takes 2-4 weeks. A full implementation takes 4-8 weeks. A migration takes 6-12 weeks. Every engagement includes a timeline in the SOW before work begins.
Yes — and I'll give you an honest answer. I work on both platforms daily and don't have a financial incentive to push one over the other. I'll assess your business needs, team size, budget, and existing integrations and tell you which platform fits. Sometimes the answer is "stay where you are and optimize."
I handle migrations from Autotask to ConnectWise or HaloPSA, but I don't currently offer Autotask optimization or implementation services.
All engagements are remote. PSA configuration is screen-share work — there's no benefit to being on-site for this type of consulting.
